ReCaP

Inayat Khan (Sanjay Dutt) is a police officer, responsible for the security of Kashmir. One day, his son Irfaan (Yogin Soni) suffers an accident and because of a fatwa (edict) of the leader of a terrorist group, no hospital treats the child and he dies. In order to wipe out the group of terrorists, Inayat Khan ends up killing an entire family along with them. Their young son Altaaf (Roshan) is the only one who survives and so, Inayat adopts him. Altaaf only remembers Khan's mask-covered face.

One day, Altaaf finds his adopted father's mask and memories return: he realizes that it was his adoptive father who killed his family. After trying to kill him, Altaaf runs away and is brought up by a terrorist group lead by Hilal Kohistani (Jackie Shroff). Now an adult (Hrithik Roshan), the terrorists want to use Altaaf to kill Muslims and Hindus in the Valley of Kashmir. He visits an old friend from his childhood, Sufiya Parvez (Preity Zinta), and though he falls in love with her, he still uses her to achieve his goal: For Altaaf, it's an opportunity for his revenge. Eventually, Khan, now an Inspector General for Kashmir, get ahold of a plot to divide Kashmir, and also learns that it involves Altaaf. It comes down to Khan and Altaaf trying hard as they could to kill one another and losing the ones they love. The finale brings the weary IG trying to convince his adopted son back, a revenge-filled son who is confused and angry about who he owes his allegiance to and finally, a hate-filled terrorist who will do anything to destroy Kashmir and thus, the entire Indian sub-continent.
